Mastercard Foundation Scholarship at UR 2026/2027: 170 Undergraduate Scholarships – How to Apply

 

The University of Rwanda (UR), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, has announced applications for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program – 5th Cohort for the 2026/2027 academic year.

A total of 170 undergraduate scholarships are available under this cohort for eligible applicants.

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

The scholarship provides comprehensive support, including:

• Full tuition fees
• On-campus accommodation
• Laptop
• Learning materials
• Monthly stipend
• Annual return ticket allowance
• Academic mentorship and tutoring
• Psychosocial support
• Career development and mentorship
• Professional internships
• Leadership and community engagement opportunities

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must meet the program's eligibility requirements, including:

• Be a citizen of Rwanda or another African country, or qualify as a refugee/displaced youth in Africa.
• Have limited access to higher education opportunities.
• Meet the academic requirements for an eligible University of Rwanda program.
• Be 28 years old or younger, or up to 30 years for applicants meeting the specified conditions for protracted life circumstances.
• Demonstrate leadership, community engagement and/or transformation initiatives.
• Obtain a University of Rwanda reference number by applying for admission to an eligible program.

How to Apply

Applicants must first apply for admission to the University of Rwanda and obtain a UR reference number.

After obtaining the reference number, applicants can complete the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program application online.
